There was a lot to see at the Chicago Auto Show and I am only now catching up with everything there. One vehicle among the many that stood out was the 2020 Kia Sportage. The successful Kia crossover SUV was showing off its new skin at this year’s show.
The current Sportage is a good looking car but the new one ups the ante. These aren’t massive changes but they are well chosen ones. For starters, the Sportage gets new headlights that change the look completely. The shape looks much more modern and has LED elements that bring them right up to date.
The new lower bumper and grille also make the 2020 Kia Sportage look more modern and offers a change. At the back, a new rear bumper and lower bash plate makes it look more modern too. Again, subtle changes whose effect punches way above their weight.
Other key changes include a new touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, new vents, new steering wheel, new interior upholstery and a wireless charger feature. There is also a new smart cruise control option and forward collision assist with pedestrian detection to increase safety.
All combine to make the 2020 Kia Sportage even more attractive than the current competition.
2019 Kia Sportage
The 2019 Kia Sportage continues where the 2018 model left off. It’s a handsome car that delivers frugal driving with a comfortable ride, lots of technology, generous interior space and decent safety scores. As a family hauler, it’s up there with the best of them.
The design is rounded and unfussy. A rounded front end with soft edges and friendly lighting offers family appeal. Simple panel detailing and cute dimensions, along with that rounded roof and unfussy rear widens the appeal of this car massively. It’s a fine balance between bland design and a design that offends nobody. This avoids the former while succeeding in the latter.
The interior displays Kia’s quality quite happily. Materials quality is excellent, the car is well put-together, interior space is generous and the amount of storage and technology shoehorned into the space is impressive. Visibility is good all round and there is enough room for three in the back with shopping at the rear.
Under the hood is either a 2.4-litre four cylinder that produces 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque or a 2.0-litre turbo four that produces 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six speed automatic to send power to the front or all wheels.
The 2020 Kia Sportage looks to improve on this years’ model in all the right ways. To learn more about either Sportage, visit Grimsby Kia, 435 South Service Road Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8.
