2020 Kia Soul EV gets 243 mile range

640 × 480
We caught a glimpse of the 2020 Kia Soul EV at the LA Auto Show earlier this year and liked what we saw. Enough updates to keep things fresh with enough heritage to keep it grounded. Kia have now released news that the EV’s range has stretched to 243 miles on a single charge.

Using the 64kWh battery pack from the Hyundai Kona, this diminutive electric vehicle can now travel further than ever before. The US Environmental Protection Agency has rated the total range at 243 miles and estimates 127/101/114 MPGe (city/highway/combined). That’s not bad at all.

Thanks to new state-of-the-art liquid-cooled lithium ion polymer 64kWh battery packs, it is entirely possible to achieve that 243 mile range with the same charging time as the current model. Along with an improved electric motor, the 2020 Soul is going to be better than ever.

It isn’t just about the range either. The existing Kia Soul EV can do up to 111 miles per charge and produces the equivalent of 109hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. The 2020 Kia Soul EV increases range but also power, being rated at 201hp and 291 lb-ft of torque. That’s quite the increase!

2020 Kia Soul EV design
The 2020 Kia Soul EV advances the existing model in a number of ways inside and out. It is instantly recognizable as a Soul but has some tweaks that make it softer, more modern and much more acceptable to a wider audience. It still has that cheeky character though which I hope it never loses.

Inside, the cabin is apparently influenced by music. Whether that’s true or not, the interior is very slick. With dark upholstery, nice stitching, a simple dashboard with centre stack and touchscreen and EV instruments, it’s a nice place to spend time. The interior space has enough room for five to travel in comfort too.

Despite being small, the 2020 Kia Soul EV has 23.8 cu-ft of cargo space behind the seats too. So it can carry the family and luggage or shopping!

The 2020 Kia Soul EV has four drive modes Eco, Comfort, Sport and Eco+. Each offers increasing amounts of energy saving and frugal driving characteristics depending on the conditions. The regenerative brakes also have three different intensity levels depending on your comfort and the conditions.

The Soul EV comes standard with forward collision warning and avoidance, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, driver attention warning and adaptive cruise control with stop and go assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear- cross-traffic alert and parking distance warning are available as options.

I think the 2020 Kia Soul EV is the complete package. Visit Georgetown Kia, 199 and 314 Guelph Street, Georgetown, Ontario to learn all about it.
