2020 Kia Seltos arriving in the spring

I have covered the 2020 Kia Seltos before. It’s a solid crossover that extends Kia’s reach even further and offers a smaller chassis ideal for city living with weekends exploring the wilderness. Kia has now announced it will be available in Canada in spring 2020.

The Seltos is already available in other regions so we are behind the times here. That’s not such bad news though as it has had time to be received and reviewed. So far it has done very well indeed, with sales exceeding expectations so far. Reviews have so far been positive too, which is good news for us.

We don’t have an exact date yet but Kia has said it will be sometime in the spring 2020. We should get a much better look at it soon as it is appearing at the next Los Angeles Auto Show.

2020 Kia Seltos

The 2020 Kia Seltos is a good looking vehicle designed to fit between the Kia Soul and the Niro. It’s a modest size but doesn’t feel it when you’re driving, offering a lively drive with the ability to handle highways and city streets with ease. It has similar dimensions to the Kia Soul but is a completely different vehicle altogether.

The front end is certainly noticeable. It has the tiger nose and then a Range Rover-esque lower sill with detailing, venting and some aggressive lighting. It’s certainly going to make you look twice that’s for sure. The rest of the profile looks a little like the Skoda Kodiaq, which is a positive.

It has an angular design with panel detailing all over and decent ground clearance with some nice alloy wheels. The rising beltline offers a premium look while roof rails hint that this is more than about just looks.

Inside, the Seltos keeps things simple but in a good way. Materials are simple but effective with good quality finishing and lots of surfaces you will want to run your fingers across. There is an 8 or 10 inch touchscreen, some simple controls, a standard Kia steering wheel and not a lot else. That’s all the better though.

The Seltos can be equipped with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control. So while it may look simple under the skin, it is actually anything but.

The Seltos uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre four cylinder engine that produces around 175 hp alongside a 7 speed automatic with dual clutch. It’s a lively engine that has been tuned specifically to be as smooth to drive as possible.

While you may think the market has enough crossovers already, when one arrives that offers something a little different than the norm and that has done well everywhere it was released, there has to be something to look forward to about this new car!
