2020 Ford Super Duty

Another standout of the Chicago Auto show was the 2020 Ford Super Duty. Unless you’re a truck guy, it is difficult to make a truck attractive, especially one as big as the Super Duty. Ford seem to have managed it with just a few modest updates.

The 2020 Ford Super Duty has some stiff competition and with Ram and Chevrolet and GMC all bringing new trucks to market, Ford had to do something to keep the crown. I think even these minor improvements should seal the deal.

The exterior receives some welcome updates in the form of new lights, new grille and a new tailgate. The new LED headlights look even bigger than before even though they aren’t. The new grill makes the truck look more imposing and will likely exaggerate that when you see it in the rear-view mirror.

A new tailgate offers a slight tweak over the existing one while new body colour options should also make a difference. Despite what you might think when you see the Super Duty on the road, they are available in colours other than white. Ford is planning a bunch of new colours for this model year to complement the already wide selection of tones for the current one.

The big news with the 2020 Ford Super Duty is under that huge hood.

While the 6.2-litre V8 engine in base models remains unchanged, there is a new V8 in town and the diesel gets an upgrade. The new engine is a 7.3-litre gas V8. We don’t yet know the performance figures for it but Ford seemed quite proud.

‘The 7.3-litre gas V8 uses an all-new cam-in-block, overhead valve architecture with cast iron block and forged steel crankshaft for maximum durability. Port injection with variable-valve timing optimizes the intake and exhaust to match performance with workloads. Oil jets cool the pistons under heavy loads.’

The 6.7-litre PowerStroke diesel gets upgrades too in a new fuel injection system. It has been redesigned to improve gas mileage and efficiency without robbing power. The diesel also gets new cylinder heads and a redesigned turbocharger for more power and torque.

All 2020 Ford Super Duty trucks will get a revised version of Ford’s impressive 10 speed automatic transmission. The tweaks are promised to bring smoother shifts and better gas mileage.

Finally, the 2020 Ford Super Duty will also include the option for lane keep alert and automatic emergency braking as well as WiFi connectivity and a new version of Pro Trailer Backup Assist to help with towing.

All in all, the improvements to the 2020 Ford Super Duty seems to offer all the right things in all the right places. The truck doesn’t hit dealerships until Fall so we have a little while to learn more about it.

In the meantime, Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 is your go-to dealer for anything Ford Super Duty.
