2020 Ford Ranger getting a power boost

2020 Ford Ranger getting a power boost

As if there weren’t enough reasons to buy a 2020 Ford Ranger, you could soon be getting more power as part of the package. Ford has announced an output boost from Ford Performance increasing power by 50hp.

The 2020 Ford Ranger is probably the only truck other than a Raptor that ever got me excited. Smaller than the F-150 and more interesting than just about any other truck on the market, the Ranger has everything you need for daily use.

As if the superb design and excellent handling wasn’t enough, Ford are offering a new air filter and ECU remap to increase power from the standard 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque up to 320 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque.

This is delivered by a K&N air filter and an ECU remap that boosts output and updates shift timing on the transmission to handle the extra output. Shifts should also be more precise.

As this is an official Ford update, it will not invalidate your warranty and even comes with its own warranty if installed by a Ford dealership.

2020 Ford Ranger

The 2020 Ford Ranger is a small truck that rights the wrongs of many other trucks. It’s easy to drive, has good road manners, can be parked in a standard parking space and doesn’t seem out of place on a suburban driveway. It also looks pretty good.

The design is similar to the F-150 but also different. It is very much its own truck and I like it for that. The front end isn’t imposing at all, seeming much more purposeful. A large grille with lights to the side looks good. A visible bash plate underneath adds a bit of character while the rest of the design is typical truck.

Inside, the cabin is surprisingly spacious. You can fit four adults in comfort or three kids in back. All alongside practical storage, comfortable seating and good visibility all round.

Up front, the driver is well looked after with an adjustable seat, solid controls, a nice touchscreen and a great view of the road.

Engine and mechanicals

The 2020 Ford Ranger has a 2.3-litre turbocharged four cylinder that delivers 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. When the upgrades arrive, that could increase to 320 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque. It uses Ford’s 10 speed automatic to deliver power.

There is the FX4 package if you intend to go off-road, otherwise, XL, XLT and Lariat trims should deliver the comfort and convenience you need.

The 2020 Ford Ranger fills a huge gap in the market as well as a practicality and truck-like experience. It’s a solid all-rounder that is proving exceptionally popular. Having higher power numbers just adds to the appeal.
