2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 ending production

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 ending production

One of the most iconic performance cars in the world will be ending production this model year. The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R will both be bowing out at the end of this production run.

We thought this was coming but not exactly when. None of the Ford forecasts and production schedules we saw mentioned the two cars so it was obvious something was up.

Ford then mentioned they had said all along that once the Shelby GT500 was ready, the GT350 and GT350R would both be retired. It seems now is the time. Once the production run ends this fall, it will be the end for these two iconic cars.

It’s a real shame but you can see Ford’s point. There is no space for them with the GT500 around. That, along with the new 2021 Mustang Mach 1 should deliver all the performance we need for a while.

That’s progress I guess.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is an awesome beast. A track day car that’s road legal and great fun to drive. The GT350 has better road manners than the GT350R but the latter is arguably more fun on the track. To be honest, you wouldn’t complain at having either on your driveway.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 takes the standard Mustang and adds a lower front splitter, small fender vents, alloy wheels and a trunk spoiler. There are also a range of unique colours, including new ones for 2020 including Twister Orange, Grabber Lime, Iconic Silver and Rapid Red.

On the inside, the GT350 looks and feels just like a standard Mustang with a couple of little tweaks. It’s still a nice place to be but you’ll need to go for the GT350R if you want to see a real difference.

Under the hood

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 has a unique engine and drivetrain. The engine is a 5.2-litre V8 nicknamed ‘Voodoo’. It generates 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a six speed manual which isn’t available on many other Ford cars.

The GT350R delivers the same power but a completely different experience with sharper response, huge power band and much lighter weight.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 got the balance right between track performance and road manners. While not plush by any means, the suspension is comfortable enough for road trips or hours in the driver’s seat without requiring spinal surgery afterwards.

Yet get it on the track and you’ll still walk away with a huge grin on your face.

It’s a shame to see the end of the GT350 and GT350R but it makes sense even if we don’t like it. If you want to buy one before they disappear for good, visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2.
