2020 Kia Telluride awarded Top Safety Pick

640 × 480
The new Kia SUV has been awarded Top Safety Pick from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It narrowly missed out on the top spot thanks to headlights that didn’t meet the new tougher criteria. In all other ways it seems the 2020 Kia Telluride is a safe vehicle to drive.
The Top Safety Pick award is comprised of several tests to assess overall safety. The Telluride earned Good ratings for all categories with a Superior rating for front crash prevention at both 12 mph and 25 mph thanks to its forward collision avoidance technology. It was only let down by the LED projector headlights that met the Acceptable rating rather than the Good that would have seen it awarded Top Safety Pick+.
Those crash tests include driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, head restraint tests and the new passenger-side small-overlap crash test. The Telluride aced all of these.
2020 Kia Telluride
The 2020 Kia Telluride is a handsome SUV designed to take the luxury market and turn it on its head. Taking on the likes of the Navigator, Range Rover, the Escalade and others is a tall order but one this Kia seems up to achieving. It’s similar in size and stature, offers every luxury and convenience and competes very well on price.
The design is very stout. It’s big car with a big front end yet doesn’t look ungainly or too much like a truck. It’s a squared off design that is attractive in its own right for a three row SUV and adds similar character as the Soul for a different segment.
Inside, the midsize designation of the 2020 Kia Telluride belies the interior space. It is cavernous, with lots of room for passengers in all rows with space for cargo in back. Materials are top class, finishing is excellent, light and visibility are impressive and technology is everywhere. It’s a nice place to spend time whether you’re driving or being driven.
The Telluride uses a 3.8-litre V6 engine that generates 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. It uses an eight speed automatic transmission to send power to the front or all wheels.
The ride is plush with little body roll or diving on poor road surfaces, with supple suspension and a composed setup. It’s a great drive that won’t leave you feeling short changed.
There are three trims available for the 2020 Kia Telluride, SX, S and EX. All offer comfortable surroundings, the same engine and drivetrain and huge list of packages and options.
That Top Safety Pick is going to be reassuring to many new owners. It means the included adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active lane control, blind-spot monitors and optional Highway Driving Assist deliver the goods as far as safety goes, making this a very safe car to drive.
