2019 Ram Heavy Duty

640 × 329
The 2019 Ram Heavy Duty has broken cover at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. We saw some spy shots late last year that hinted at what to expect but now the show is under way we can see for ourselves what Ram has in store for us.

Here’s a video:

2019 Ram Heavy Duty design
The truck looks familiar of course with some minor changes in design for the new model year. There are three types of headlight to choose from, a new aluminium hood, new grille design, the badge is now on each side instead of the door, the rear lights have has some work, some slightly new panel shapes, new side steps, tailgate and new wheels.

The RamBox now lights up, the rear lights now have a smoked option and there are design tweaks all over the place too.

Inside, the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty gets new acoustic glass and a new active mass module to help reduce chassis vibration. A couple of the audio systems also include noise cancelling technology. Otherwise, the interior is similar to the new Ram 1500, only bigger. A 12 inch touchscreen is an option, as is a surround camera.

The truck also gets a new dashboard, glove-friendly controls, new centre console and storage and lots of minor changes.

2019 Ram Heavy Duty engine and drivetrain
There are three engines available for the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty. The standard engine is the 6.4-litre gas V8 that delivers 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. Next is the 6.7-litre Cummins turbodiesel that delivers 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque.

Finally, for the 3500 only is an upgraded version of the Cummins that delivers 400 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. This model also gets an upgraded six speed Asin automatic transmission to help with that power. This engine allows the Ram to carry up to 7,680 pounds and tow up to 35,100 pounds.

To help with this, the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty gets new suspension with frequency damping alongside the air suspension option. Also optional are front and rear locking differential, upgraded winch that can pull up to 12,000 pounds and a new 360 degree camera to help manoeuvring.

Finally, improvements have been made to safety too. The trucks now feature the option for adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and an emergency braking system that can be connected to the trailer brake.

Ram have yet to announce a release date for the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty but if you want to keep in the loop, register your interest at Unique Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, 915 Walkers Line, Burlington, ON  L7N 3V8.
