FCA has been very busy these last couple of weeks. The latest news out of the automaker is the imminent arrival of the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel 12. This special edition adds a few more luxuries to what is already a very comfortable truck. It’s another Ram special that will resonate very well with buyers.
The 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel 12 builds on the existing Rebel trim by adding a 12” touchscreen instead of the 8.4” unit with the latest version of Uconnect. It also features a new 900W Harmon Kardon audio system with 19 speakers with surround sound, subwoofer and noise cancelling.
The new Uconnect is faster, more intuitive, sharper, has better colours and is better than previous versions in every way. A larger touchscreen is always a welcome upgrade and the 12” unit fits perfectly into the centre stack. The standard Rebel has a 5” or 8.4” unit and while still capable, bigger is always better!

The 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel has undergone something of a revolution with this new model. It has better aerodynamics without changing the shape too much, is lighter thanks to new materials and underpinnings and a stronger chassis that features stronger materials while also being lighter.
The mild hybrid system is a good addition too.
The design is still superb. The 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel looks the business and looks like it can handle off road. A more aggressive stance, new grille, hood vents and slightly fared fenders all combine with the off road tires to create something that stands out for all the right reasons.
The Rebel is available in Crew Cab or Quad Cab and is obvious from the stitching and badging inside. You still get comfortable seats, a touchscreen, lots of storage, good visibility and lots of technology though. Best of all, the look and feel of the standard Ram cabin is enhanced with the Rebel extras.
Under that new hood is either the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque or the 5.7-litre Hemi. The V6 produces 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque while the Hemi produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque. Both use an eight speed automatic transmission.
The eTorque system features a belt-drive motor generator and 48-volt battery pack. It is available on both engines and is designed to help with towing. The V8 version is rated at 5,783kg with eTorque which reduces to 5,266kg without it. The system includes engine stop-start and regenerative braking to help maintain charge and powers accessories from the batteries rather than from the engine. I haven’t tried the system yet but it looks intriguing.
