2019 Mazda MX-5

640 × 381
The Mazda MX-5 is one of the best roadsters in the world bar none. It handles well, drives superbly and is now more refined and more pleasurable to drive than ever before. Mazda are not resting on their laurels though, they are continually driving forward to maintain momentum and that excellent reputation. Details on the new MX-5 have been released by Mazda Canada that proves that point.

This next version of the car gets more power, better performance, enhanced safety features and some neat designer touches. Overall, this year is going to be a good year for the MX-5.

2019 Mazda MX-5 improvements
As the engine is at the heart of any roadster, it is good news that the new engine will deliver more power and be more responsive. The 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine has been tweaked to deliver 181 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque faster and more smoothly than ever thanks to a new remap that delivers a refined torque curve throughout an increased rev range.

The 1.5-litre engine has also been given an upgrade but there are no details released for that yet.

Tweaks to the engine are all about efficiency. They include less friction between moving parts, better fuel delivery and less mass overall help deliver performance gains as well as refinements in power delivery.

Safety tech
The 2019 Mazda MX-5 is also improving safety as well as performance. It comes with a new reversing camera to meet new rules and will have optional safety tech options including traffic sign recognition and Smart City Brake Support.

The i-ACTIVSENSE safety system will still be available with its range of tech that includes everything from intelligent lighting to driver alerts, lane following, collision avoidance and pre-crash safety tech. Exactly what i-ACTIVSENSE includes depends on your trim level and the options you select.

Designer touch
The 2019 Mazda MX-5 is also going to offer a new canvas roof in a brown colour. This keeps up with the trend of mixing body and roof colour. Other new options include new designs for alloy wheels, new steering wheel, new door openers and doorstops and some minor trim improvements.

These minor changes will go a long way to keeping the 2019 Mazda MX-5 competitive in what is a cutthroat roadster market. If the driving experience and sheer smile-inducing performance of this little roadster are even close to what we have now, the MX-5 is going to keep on winning acclaim and awards.
