2019 Mazda CX-5: All of The New Changes

2019 Mazda CX-5: All of The New Changes

640 × 353

The Japanese-spec 2019 Mazda CX-5 has been announced and it has a new engine. We are expecting the same news for Canada but only the Asian model has been announced so far. This Mazda crossover is a common sight on our streets and if the same upgrade comes here, that isn’t going to change anytime soon.

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 will feature the same capable engine that the Mazda6 has, the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine. In the Mazda6 the engine delivers 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. We don’t know if the CX-5 will have the same numbers but if it does, that’s a lot of grunt for a modest sized vehicle.

As well as a new engine, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 also gets Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus system. This is a stability control system that applies braking when maneuvering at speed. The idea is to add light braking when performing turns at speed like if you were to swerve to avoid an obstruction in the road. The system would apply the brake lightly to wheels to help maintain control and keep you on the road.

The Japanese version of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 will also feature night time pedestrian detection, 360 degree cameras, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, new climate control panel and new aluminum wheels.

We don’t yet know what the NA-spec 2019 Mazda CX-5 will feature but will update you when we do.

2018 Mazda CX-5

The design of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 differs very little from the 2018 model and for good reason. It’s an excellent design that looks fantastic and shows what you can do with a standard crossover design.

The design was released in 2017 and seems to have gone down very well. It has a typical Mazda front end with low hood and grille, modest fascia, angled lighting, raked windshield and extruded wheel arches. The entire design seems to flow upwards from the front, rounding off at the rear hatch. It’s a compelling design that looks the part.

Inside, the first impression is that of a high end SUV. It’s more spacious than you initially think and materials and finishing are superb. With great seating, lots of visibility and technology and some clever storage options, there is a lot to like about the interior of the 2018 Mazda CX-5.

The current version of Mazda’s 2.5-litre four cylinder produces 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. It uses a six speed automatic transmission to send power to all wheels. New softer suspension makes the ride comfortable and serene and power delivery does what it can to not upset that.

I’m looking forward to a more powerful CX-5 if we get it. In the meantime, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 offers amazing quality and value.
