2019 Kia Stinger Atlantica: A Quick Overview
2019 Kia Stinger Atlantica: A Quick Overview
Posted on March 16, 2018
Kia have announced a special edition of the Stinger. After less than a year after release the Korean automaker has come up with the 2019 Kia Stinger GT Atlantica. It is a trick version of an already superb car and one that is going to go down very well I think.
The first thing you notice about the 2019 Kia Stinger GT Atlantica is the colour. Called Deep Chroma Blue, there is something special about the tone and depth of it that makes it really stand out. With the white background of Colorado in the image, it looks superb!
The Atlantica isn’t all about the colour though. The special edition also gets an Espresso Brown Nappa leather interior, unique badging and some new features. Those new features are not currently available in the Stinger options list so add extra cache to the car.
Tech includes a wireless phone charger, heated rear seats and Surround View Monitor system. You also get unique (to North America anyway) 19 inch alloy wheels and a Stinger logo on the rear hatch which is only found on Korean models.
‘We recognize Stinger is something special and wanted to commemorate the 2019 model year with a stand-out variant,’ said Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning at Kia Motors America. ‘The Atlantica edition introduces more European flair while distinguishing itself with exclusive badging and features not previously offered by Kia in the U.S. market.’
The 2019 Kia Stinger GT Atlantica should be with us sometime in the summer with pricing to be announced.
2018 Kia Stinger GT
The 2018 Kia Stinger GT is my favourite car right now. Not only does it look amazing and sound awesome, I also love rooting for the underdog. Considering the pedigree of the cars this machine has been designed to take on, it most certainly is playing catch-up.
The design of the Stinger is superb. Long, low and shapely with bulges and detailing in all the right places. A long and low hood with angled headlights look the business while a wide grille and lower intake add a slight air of menace. A steeply raked windshield and curved roof flow nicely into the very modern looking hatch.
Inside, the sporty intent is clear. Low slung, body-hugging seats, driver-oriented dashboard and controls and a steering wheel with a flattened bottom. It is not barebones and not cramped like a pure racer or sports car either. The materials are all top notch, head and leg room is plentiful and there are storage options too.
Under that long hood is a 3.3-litre twin turbo V6 engine that delivers 365 hp. It uses an eight speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear wheels. This car is fast, but surefooted. There is lots and lots of grip, cornering is confident and the tires never seem to want to give up. While largely irrelevant in an urban setting, once you get out into the countryside, the 2018 Kia Stinger GT is a joy to drive.
