2019 Jeep Renegade: A Quick Overview

2019 Jeep Renegade: A Quick Overview

640 × 370

The Renegade is a fun little Jeep that combines a small footprint, genuine off road ability and that fun factor that makes Jeeps such good cars to own. Having seen the EU spec Renegade earlier this year, we now know what the NA spec is going to look like.

The 2019 Jeep Renegade gets a new engine, a similar front and rear design as the EU spec, new wheels, new colour options and an LED lighting package.

The 2019 Jeep Renegade is a diminutive car with a large personality. More modern than the Wrangler and more fun than the Cherokee, it hits the sweet spot between capability and enjoyment.

The front end is new, with a tweaked grille, new fog light positioning, new lower sill and slight modifications across the entire front end. There is also a new hood and new taillights. A set of new alloy wheels is also available. Despite these changes, the look and feel of the Jeep remains.

Inside, there is a new instrument cluster and some technology improvements. The Advanced Technology package now includes adaptive cruise control, ParkSense, Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist Plus and front parking sensors.

New engine

The other headline about the 2019 Jeep Renegade is that it gets a new smaller engine. The 1.4-litre four cylinder is gone. It is replaced by a smaller 1.3-litre turbocharged four cylinder that generates 177 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque. The existing 2.4-litre four remains, which produces 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.

The new engine will be optional on the Sport and Latitude trims and standard on the Limited and Trailhawk. It should deliver credible performance and excellent gas mileage. We don’t have any numbers yet though.

Both engines use a nine speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front or all wheels.

The design and build of the 2019 Jeep Renegade means it should be as content on the road as it will be off road. You won’t need a Trailhawk to tackle the rough stuff although if you’re going to make a habit of it you should look at one of those. The off road chops of all Jeep vehicles continue with the Renegade and while small, this little Jeep should be able to go most places it larger siblings can.

It’s good to see the NA version of the 2019 Jeep Renegade at long last. We did wonder if Canada would get the little 1.3-litre engine as things tend to be bigger here but it’s good to see that we are. The real proof will be in the driving though and I’ll update our blog once I get hands on.
