2019 Dodge Charger

We got a glimpse of the 2019 Dodge Charger over the holidays and it looks good. The shift towards crossovers isn’t universal and Dodge are showing that there is still life left in sedans yet and I must say, I agree with them.
The changes are mainly around the performance models, R/T Scat Pack and Hellcat but as these two are big sellers, that’s fine with us. The SXT does get an AWD option which is good news for Canadians and a new GT trim will be introduced which will sit with the SXT.
The GT trim sits alongside the Charger SXT to be the RWD options. They will use the 3.6-litre engine to achieve 300 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. Then there is the SXT AWD which uses the same engine but with a slightly lower output care of that AWD system at 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.
The Charger SRT Hellcat also gets new instrument trim and badging, new 20 inch forged wheels, a satin black hood option and an Alacantra package for the sports seating.
The R/T Scat Pack gets Bilstein adaptive damping suspension with Auto, Sport, and Track modes and some new colours.
Bringing the changes
The 2019 Dodge Charger showed us the new grille we had heard about and the air inlets are present and correct. There are also some new stripes in different colours and even carbon effect for the R/T Scat Pack.
There are other changes too including Launch Assist, Line Lock, After-run Chiller which keeps cooling running after the engine is switched off and torque Reserve which provides a preload for power and torque before you initiate Launch Assist. All these elements will appear on the Hellcat while Launch Assist and Line Lock will also appear on the R/T Scat Pack.
Launch Assist manages power and ensures it all gets sent to the wheel with most grip. Line Lock ensures you stay in a straight line when doing drag starts. Both of which are essential in a car like the SRT Hellcat.
A new cold weather package is also coming with heated steering wheel, front seats and heated mirrors. More good news for Canadian buyers.
The Dodge Charger is due a complete revamp but we don’t think that will be for another couple of years. Rumours have it at a 2021 release, so any updates are going to be welcome. I must say, while I’m not really a muscle car guy, the changes to the Charger look pretty good!
