Yesterday I covered the 2018 Ram 1500 so today I would like to talk about the 2018 Ram 2500. The Ram light truck line is the one we see most on our streets but the heavy duty 2500 line of trucks is often to be found where heavy hauling or towing happens. Less of a leisure truck and more for work, the 2018 Ram 2500 delivers on every count.
Like the 1500, the 2018 Ram 2500 hasn’t changed a great deal from earlier models so you could be forgiven for thinking the truck is just the same. However, upgrades in features and options as well as steady developments in engines and drivetrains means this truck is always up to date.
2018 Ram 2500 design
The design of the 2018 Ram 2500 is exactly what you would expect a heavy duty truck to be. Simple, effective and most of all-practical. Yet somehow it manages to be more than that. It shares the same cues as the 1500, big front end, huge hood, bulging fenders and big bumpers only this time they are bigger. The hood is longer, front is taller, fenders wider and lights larger.
Inside, the 2500 can be specified as a basic utilitarian work truck or something much more luxurious. Whatever you go for, you have three options of regular cab, Crew Cab and Mega Cab to offer space for passengers while interior touches can be basic hard plastics or luxurious leather.
There are eight trim levels, Tradesman, SLT, Big Horn, Sport, Power Wagon, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited and the upcoming Limited Tungsten. Each takes a step up in terms of features but all offer the same utility and practicality.
2018 Ram 2500 engines
The 2018 Ram 2500 has three engine options to choose from. There is a 5.7-litre V8 with 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, a 6.4-litre V8 that produces 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque and a 6.7-litre turbodiesel that produces 350 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque (370 hp and 800 lb-ft with the auto transmission).
There is a six speed automatic transmission or a six speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear or all wheels. The manual is only available on the diesel.
The 2018 Ram 2500 is a solid, dependable truck that gets the job done. The range of trims and options is huge and will take you from the most basic to the most luxurious. While not as leisure-friendly as the 1500, if you need to haul or tow, this is certainly one of the best trucks to do it in.
