2018 Nissan Qashqai: A Quick Overview

2018 Nissan Qashqai: A Quick Overview

640 × 480

The 2018 Nissan Qashqai is a solid compact crossover SUV that looks good, performs well and delivers you on time wherever you need to be. It is also now apparently the world's fastest SUV. Well, a one-off special edition of the Nissan SUV is anyway.

A UK tuner called Severn Valley Motorsport swapped out the usual 2.0-litre four cylinder for a 2.7-litre twin turbo from a Nissan GT-R. Along with a new cooling system, new turbos, new running gear and uprated brakes, the tuner achieved a staggering 2,000 hp!

The tuner’s Facebook page celebrates getting the special Qashqai to 237.8 mph which is faster than the current world record holder. That record was originally held by a Toyota Land Cruiser that also boasted over 2,000 hp from its own tuned engine.

We have seen Nissan try something on a smaller scale with the Juke-R. That too had a GT-R engine but with a ‘normal’ tune. That didn’t last long, so now you either buy a GT-R or build your own insane car with a GT-R engine like Severn Valley Motorsport.

2018 Nissan Qashqai

The 2018 Nissan Qashqai is a compact crossover that we don’t see enough of here in Canada. It’s a smaller version of the Rogue that has a very similar profile, great looks and a very reliable drivetrain. The model has been around for over 12 years in some markets but it only arrived on our shores in 2017.

The Qashqai are a mountain people in Iran, which this vehicle is named after. For us, it is a modest five seat crossover that has enough room for all the family plus some cargo.

The design is very familiar. The signature Nissan front end with V grille, angled lights, curved hood and detailed fenders are like a smaller Rogue. The raked windshield flows into a slightly sloping roof to a hatch spoiler while down the side, panel detail draws a waistline down the length of the vehicle.

Inside, the design is also typical Nissan. A logical layout, comfortable seating, enough head and leg room for everyone and room in the back for groceries or cargo. It is a pleasant place to be that can be specified to include every possible technology.

The engine is a 2.0-litre four cylinder that produces 141 hp. It uses Nissan’s signature CVT transmission to drive the front or all wheels. Given the modest dimensions and weight of the Qashqai, the engine delivers plenty enough power to get you around town with ease.

The 2018 Nissan Qashqai is a solid vehicle that, in AWD guise, would work well in the city.
