2018 Kia Stinger proves it is Canada-proof

2018 Kia Stinger proves it is Canada-proof

I like the look of the 2018 Kia Stinger. It’s a good looking sports sedan that proves Kia is maturing as a brand and delivering some great looking vehicles. That is even more true now that the Korean automaker has proven its winter chops in -35C.

The 2018 Kia Stinger was sent to Arjeplog in the far north of Sweden with a team of engineers to see how the car would cope in cold weather. Apparently the temperatures dropped to -35C and the car was subjected to more snow and ice that it is every likely to come up against in most areas of Canada and survived.

Good news for anyone in our area wanting a 2018 Kia Stinger!

‘Testing the car in these extreme conditions allows us to focus on the stability and predictability that the Stinger offers drivers, in every configuration and in all driving conditions,’ explained Albert Biermann, Head of Vehicle Test and High Performance Development at Kia.

‘Crucially, these tests allow us to engineer a car which retains the driving appeal that buyers look for in a sport sedan. We want enthusiastic drivers to be able to enjoy the thrill of driving their Stinger in all conditions without compromising on safety.’

2018 Kia Stinger
I like what I have seen of the 2018 Kia Stinger so far. A rear-wheel drive sports car with a touch of class. It is an ambitious car designed to take on the likes of BMW and Audi, but at a much lower price point.

With a 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder that delivers 255 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque or a 3.3-litre V6 capable of 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, the Stinger has power aplenty. It will send that power to the rear wheels, with AWD as an option through an eight speed automatic transmission. No manual option is currently available.

It is the design more than the motor that will gain it fans. The car looks awesome. It’s a very aero shape with low front, curved hood, very raked windshield, curved roof and squat rear end. Panel detailing all around offers even more interest for the eye.

On the inside, leather upholstery and a modern flowing dashboard create an excellent first impression. Sports-style instruments and a colour LED screen gives the impression of a very modern car. The modest centre stack with touchscreen keeps everything within reach.

I can’t wait to take the Stinger out for a test drive when it arrives. If you feel the same way, contact Grimsby Kia, 435 South Service Road Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8 to be kept up to date with the car.
