2018 Kia Soul and Sportage now Top Safety Pick Plus

2018 Kia Soul and Sportage now Top Safety Pick Plus

640 × 480
Both the 2018 Kia Soul and 2018 Kia Sportage have earned the coveted Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It is the maximum achievable score and sets both Kia vehicles ahead of many of its competitors.

The Top Safety Pick Plus rating is only for those Soul and Sportage equipped with HID headlights. Otherwise, both scored well in small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests.

The newer headlight rating requires a score of acceptable or good for Plus and advanced or superior in the front crash prevention test.

That makes it six Kia models that have earned Top Safety Pick Plus. The Soul and Sportage join the Forte, Optima, Cadenza and Sorento who have already earned the rating.

2018 Kia Soul
There are some very good reasons we see so many Kia Souls driving around. Yes they are cheap but they are also well put together, great to drive, spacious and well equipped. Now you can add safe to that list and the number we see is only going to increase!

The boxy shape may be polarizing but it works very well. Not only does it provide a great profile from the outside but it also offers maximum passenger space inside. Lots of glass ensures the interior is very light and visibility is also very good. That and the agility inherent in the Soul means it is great around town.

The 2018 Kia Soul has three engine options. The first uses a 1.6-litre four cylinder that has already proven its worth in other models. It produces 131 hp and sends power to the front wheels. There is also a 2.0-litre engine option in the Soul+ that produces 161 hp. Both use a six speed automatic or manual transmission. The Soul Exclaim uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine that produces 201 hp.

Helping it achieve that Top Safety Pick Plus rating, is the safety tech on board. The 2018 Kia Soul comes with a full suite of airbags, adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning. and forward-collision warning. These are either optional or standard depending on what model you choose.

As well as Top Safety Pick Plus, the 2018 Kia Soul has also been awarded 5-stars from the U.S. NHTSA. That is the second independent safety test this car has aced!
