2018 Kia Sedona earns Top Safety Pick

2018 Kia Sedona earns Top Safety Pick

640 × 480
The 2018 Kia Sedona has regained the status of Top Safety Pick thanks to new HID projector headlights. The Kia minivan previously held the title but when the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety introduced headlight assessments as part of their ratings, the Sedona lost out. Now it is back and all the better for it.

The new headlights are available as an option on higher tier Sedona trims. The standard headlights are not rated as highly, so a Sedona with standard lights is not a Top Safety Pick.

2018 Kia Sedona
The Kia Sedona is one of the last remaining true minivans. Alongside the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey, it is one of few people carriers left on the market. That doesn’t mean it’s a laggard or isn’t keeping up as the opposite is true.

The design is smooth and reassuring. With no rough edges, a refined modern look, the Sedona hits all the right spots with its design. The Kia tiger nose is front and centre along with a neat lower sill and fog lights. A steeply raked windshield flows into a smooth and slightly sloped roof to a tidy rear end with boot lid. An unfussy profile and nice alloy wheels completes the look.

Inside, the design continues the smooth, reassuring feel. The front two rows of seats are very comfortable and offer lots of support. The third row is modestly sized but plenty enough for the kids and will fold down nicely. The second row folds flat too offering a ton of cargo space should you need it. Quality materials, a modern touchscreen and lots of storage make this the ideal family mover.

Engine and mechanicals
The 2018 Kia Sedona uses a 3.3-litre V6 engine that provides 276 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. It uses a six speed automatic transmission to power the front wheels. The ride is a highlight of the Sedona. The suspension and chassis are tuned just right for our roads and offers a floaty feel with enough feedback to keep you grounded. It is definitely up there in terms of comfort.

In terms of safety tech, the 2018 Kia Sedona features a reversing camera and the option for surround-view cameras, forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring. Those new HID headlights are also optional, or standard on the SXL trim.

The Sedona is available in LX, EX and SXL trims. The SXL gets everything, keyless entry and ignition, the new headlights, power everything, surround view cameras, dual-pane sunroof, premium leather and loads of other good stuff.
