2018 Kia Rio
Posted on September 8, 2017
This little Kia has been exceptionally popular with city buyers across Canada and north America. Despite buying habits switching to crossovers, this little five door hatch has carved itself a niche is our hearts and on our driveways. The 2018 Kia Rio is a great option for zipping round town, doing the school run or escaping on the weekend. Perhaps that is why it sells so well.
The 2018 Kia Rio is now in its fourth generation. It builds on the success of its predecessors and offers more of everything.
2018 Kia Rio design
The clever design of the 2018 Kia Rio squeezes a lot into a subcompact shape. The design continues Kia’s drive for modernity while also looking upmarket and very cool. A small version of the Kia tiger nose is present, as are the familiar angled lights and large lower grille from before. Slight refinements in styling are subtle and the overall effect create a nice looking car.
On the inside, the Rio is impressively quiet. It is spacious too which is surprising given its modest dimensions. Passenger space is generous and cargo space in back even more so. Materials and build quality are first class and there is more technology present than you might image, especially at higher trim levels.
Features and options
The 2018 Kia Rio uses a 1.6-litre four cylinder engine that provides 130 hp and 119 lb-ft of torque. It uses a six speed manual or automatic transmission to send power to the front. Given the size and low weight of the Rio, this modest output is more than enough to get you round town and feels a lot more when you’re behind the wheel.
At 28/37 mpg city/highway for the automatic and 29/37 mpg for the manual transmission, the Rio is going to be cheap to run as well as fun.
Newly standard on all models of the 2018 Kia Rio is a heated leather steering wheel and leather gear shift. Heated front seats and reversing camera are also standard on all models.
Other features include Kia UVO infotainment, remote engine start, keyless entry and ignition, Bluetooth, 7 inch touchscreen, navigation, air conditioning and power accessories. This may be a small car but Kia are determined to pack a lot into it!
There is still a huge market for subcompacts, especially in the city. They are easy to park and manoeuvre, relatively safe, frugal and can get you from A to B in comfort. The 2018 Kia Rio adds nippiness to its repertoire with that engine so journeys can be fun too.
