2018 Kia Rio
Posted on November 9, 2017
The 2018 Kia Rio is a small car with a big heart. I managed to get some one-on-one time with this nippy little Kia and I really liked it. It isn’t often that you attach a personality to a car, but that’s what this one did to me.
The 2018 Kia Rio challenges many popular buying habits. It isn’t an SUV, isn’t a crossover and isn’t increasing prices even though it is increasing technology. While it may seem like you have to spend north of $20k for a decent car, Kia is proving otherwise.
2018 Kia Rio
The 2018 Kia Rio is a small hatchback that is surprisingly spacious inside. It seats four comfortably and includes a range of neat features as part of the price.
The design is very modern with sharp angles up front, a small tiger nose and small Kia badge. Lights are heavily angled and the front sill vents quite sharp. The lower sill adds a little sportiness to the look which is complemented by the curved hood that flows into a raked windshield.
Side panels are also detailed and along with a sloped roof and rising beltline, draw your eyes to the rear. The rear is refreshingly simple with a hatch door, a pair of rounded lights and a subtle lower sill.
On the inside, the front definitely has the most legroom but rear passengers are okay too. The one piece dashboard flows the whole width of the car with a popup screen in the centre. The dashboard and controls are nicely put together and it all feels quality rather than cheap.
Engine and mechanicals
The 2018 Kia Rio has a 1.6-litre four cylinder engine that produces 130 hp and 119 lb-ft of torque. It uses a six speed manual or automatic transmission to send power to the front wheels. While 130 hp doesn’t sound much, the car weighs next to nothing so the drive is lively and fun.
The car handles well and the 15 inch wheels are enough to provide stability without being skittish. Changes are smooth and it’s easy to get the most out of the engine. It isn’t often you can have fun in a car in the true sense of the word but the 2018 Kia Rio delivers just that.
With a five year or 60,000 mile warranty, plenty of features and options and a low price, there is every reason to consider the 2018 Kia Rio if you’re in the market for a small car.
