Last week Ford announced they were bringing the Mustang GT’s line-lock feature to all Mustangs in the range. If you like the idea of burning rubber while keeping it straight, this could be the feature for you!
Line-lock essentially locks the front brakes so you can hit the gas and make smoke while remaining in place. It will hold this position for up to 15 seconds or until you disable it. Used in racing or drag races to warm up the rear tires for better grip, this feature has limited value on the road but much more if you take it to the track.
This video from Ford shows it in action.
As you can see, you need to activate it from the Track App and engage line-lock manually. It is signified by a helpful tire smoke icon and you are then free to hit the gas without bolting forward. All 2018 Ford Mustang will have this feature.
2018 Ford Mustang
We don’t know all that much about the upcoming 2018 Ford Mustang. We know it will get a revised look with a new front bumper, hood and grille but not much else. It is expected to feature full LED lighting, a new rear fascia and new rear bumper too but that has yet to be confirmed.
Ford are also promising a ‘more premium feel’ to the interior. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the current cabin to be honest. It has come a long way since the first version of the new Mustang and was good enough for me. It will be interesting to see how they uprate it.
The Blue Oval also hinted that both the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four cylinder and the 5.0-litre V8 will be tweaked to improve output. Presumably they will get a little more gas mileage too but numbers have yet to be released. Like other Fords, direct and port injection will be introduced along with the new ten speed automatic. A tweaked version of the six speed manual will also feature.
Unfortunately, it seems six cylinder engines will not feature in the 2018 Ford Mustang.
MagnaRide active damping will still be a headline option too which is a very useful addition that improves handling immensely. Once limited to specific trims and engines, it is now available across the range. For those interested in maximum ride experience, this is a no-brainer.
As is usual now, there will be a range of safety features in the new pony car. They include distance alert, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection and the Pre-Collision Assist. All should help keep you and others safe while on the road.
The 2018 Ford Mustang is expected sometime this fall. In the meantime, Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 is the place to be for everything Mustang.
