2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid: A Quick Overview
2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid: A Quick Overview
Posted on September 27, 2017
I managed to get up close and personal with a 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid this week. The updated sedan is in its sixth year and still looks as good as the day it was first launched. Along with the Fusion Energi, the hybrid is Ford’s green midsize sedan. But is it any good?
2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid design
The design of the Fusion has always been sporty and while it fits the standard models, it always seemed strange to have a sporty looking hybrid or EV. Now we are used to the look, we wouldn’t have it any other way. The Fusion is a global model that shares the looks of all new Ford cars and they are handsome to say the least.
Panel detailing is everywhere but in just the right places. The hood is detailed, the fenders, doors and rear quarter all have some kind of detail set within it. That must have made production a real pain but it looks good on the driveway. The angled lights have always been a firm favourite of mine and the addition of the smartly-shaped LED running lights improve on that in all the right ways.
The interior design remains largely the same as in previous models with top quality materials, excellent finishing and a very relaxed driving position.
2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid mechanicals
The 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid uses a 2.0-litre four cylinder engine mated to a pair of hybrid motors. These motors replace the traditional transmission in a CVT-like setup and work along with a lithium-ion battery pack located in the trunk. Fortunately, those batteries are small enough to not rob you of too much cargo space in the back.
The hybrid combination delivers a very smooth experience. Power delivery is steady and sure and the car is nicely balanced. You don’t feel the extra weight of the hybrid motors or batteries and it is very easy to drive on the highway and in the city.
2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid safety
The 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid is a family car so is full the brim with safety tech. The Fusion has IIHS Top Safety Pick and a five-star rating from the NHTSA. To achieve that, Ford offers either standard or optional rearview camera, active lane control, replacing the earlier lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, driver alerts for drowsiness and a park-assist system that can parallel park.
The 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid is a solid car that delivers decent gas mileage and a pleasant drive. With lots of features either standard or optional, it is possible to tweak your car to exactly match your needs.
