2018 Ford Fiesta ST

640 × 468
If you read my piece last week about the Geneva Auto Show, you may remember that one of the models I am looking forward to is the 2018 Ford Fiesta ST. We have known all about the new Fiesta for a while now but Ford had kept its ST version under wraps, until now. Last week it gave us a sneak peek and what’s in store.

The 2018 Ford Fiesta ST continues the trend for ‘hot hatches’, a European term meaning a compact hatchback car with sporty ambition. Competitors such as the Golf R or GTI and Civic Type R demand a solid pretender to the throne in order to compete so does the ST meet the criteria?

Here’s a quick video of the car from Ford.

2018 Ford Fiesta ST design
The car looks great. The standard Fiesta is a solid design that offers an attractive profile at any angle. The subtle differences in ST guise make all that a bit more effective. Slightly more aggressive fascia and lower valance, black trim around the fog lights and unique alloy wheels all create a more aggressive feel without alienating those buyers who don’t want a race car.

The interior is typical Ford. Simple but effective. Good quality materials, a tidy driving position with driver-oriented instruments, a small centre stack and a race steering wheel all give an atmosphere of potential with plenty of comfort thrown in.

2018 Ford Fiesta ST mechanicals
The 2018 Ford Fiesta ST does away with the 1.6-litre engine of the old ST and ushers in a new turbocharged 1.5-litre unit. It is a three cylinder EcoBoost motor that is capable of generating 197 hp. Cylinder deactivation technology means you save money and gas while not hitting the loud pedal too hard.

To help control all that potential, the ST will have torque vectoring like its Focus sibling and three driving modes. Those modes, Normal, Sport and Track will adjust the traction control, throttle response, power steering and exhaust valves accordingly to give a different character to each.

Ford said there will be hundreds of options and ways to truly personalize the 2018 Ford Fiesta ST. Along with the new blue colour, there is going to be a lot for you to choose from the options list.

While the 2018 Ford Fiesta ST is being shown this month at Geneva, it won’t be hitting dealerships until early next year. In the meantime, the current 2017 Ford Fiesta is one of the best small cars on the road. Visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 to take a test drive.
