One of the many advantages an SUV has over a family sedan or luxury cruiser is the ability to tow trailers. While many family cars with a hitch can do the same thing, an SUV makes it easy. Along with better visibility and survivability in a collision, nothing tows like the 2018 Ford Expedition.
According to a release from Ford, the newest version of their longest-running SUV can tow more than anything in its class. Properly configured, the Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds. Using the J2807 SAE standard like other vehicles, the new Expedition can tow more than the Nissan Armada, Chevrolet Tahoe, Cadillac Escalade and other comparable vehicles.
If you have jet skis, trailers or need to tow anything on a regular basis, the 2018 Ford Expedition is the vehicle to do it in.
2018 Ford Expedition
The 2018 Ford Expedition is a full size SUV that has received quite a revision. It gets a new body shell, new transmission, new interior and many feature improvements. It looks better than ever too.
The design brings the Expedition into line with other Ford global models. The new grille and blue oval are present, as are the u-shaped headlights. An integrated front bumper and nicely designed lower sill are also present and correct. Aside from a slightly curved hood, the Expedition is squared off, offering maximum interior space for passengers and cargo.
The interior of the Expedition has been seriously upgraded. Materials have improved, finishing has improved, the seating is comfortable and there are now charging points in all three rows.
Ford Sync 3 is now also present along with six USB ports, power outlets and wireless charging. This brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the ability to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot if correctly configured. Ford have also begun OTA updates to Sync 3 too which should make keeping it up to date easier than ever.
Under the hood is a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine along that new ten speed automatic transmission. The Expedition remains rear wheel drive with four wheel drive available as an option.
The Expedition will come as either an XLT, Limited or Platinum trim and comes loaded with safety features. They include active lane control, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring and a surround view camera system. If you do tow anything, there is also the option for Pro Trailer Backup Assist which helps you manoeuvre up to the trailer for seamless hitching.
