2017 Mustang Chelby GTE: A Quick Overview

2017 Mustang Chelby GTE: A Quick Overview

600 × 300

Continuing on the theme of special editions from yesterday, Shelby have announced a new version of the Mustang that sounds as good as it looks. They took a standard GT and Enhanced it, hence the extra ‘E’. What was already an awesome car is how just a little bit more special.

Unlike most Shelby variants, the 2017 Shelby GTE has had a light touch instead of a complete overhaul. It sees some engine improvements, handling improvements, different tires and some appearance upgrades that include the signature Shelby stripes.

Specifically, the standard V8 engine has been upgraded with the Ford Power pack and some tuning so it now delivers 456 hp. The EcoBoost four cylinder has also been boosted from 310 hp up to 335. The EcoBoost engine has been upgraded with a Shelby engine tune and a cat-back exhaust system as well as new performance wheels and tires.

Both GTE models get Shelby stripes and unique exterior trim. The vented hood, carbon front splitter and rear spoiler are the standout additions though.

The new model was shown at the Mustang Club of America meeting at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis. It is designed to sit between the standard Mustang and the performance GT350 and 350R. Apparently inspired by the 2016 Shelby GT-H rental car, this model seems to hit the sweet spot between all-out power and a cool looking car.

According to the press release that came with the reveal:

“Every high-octane attribute expected of a Shelby car is incorporated into an affordable package that will be available at any of our North American mod shops,” said Keith Belair, COO of Shelby American, in a release. “The Shelby GTE gives every fan the opportunity to drive the sports car of their dreams.”

“The Shelby GTE can be easily tailored for the road or the track, or even both” said Shelby American Vice President Gary Patterson. “And with our full range of Shelby performance parts, the possibilities are endless. If you can dream it, we can build it.”

The 2017 Shelby GTE would be ideal as a cool cruising car or the basis for a serious tune. It isn’t as all-out as the GT350 but is different enough to stand out from the crowd!
