2017 Ram 1500 wins Canadian Truck King Challenge

2017 Ram 1500 wins Canadian Truck King Challenge

640 × 480
The annual Canadian Truck King Challenge winner has just been announced and it is the 2017 Ram 1500. It’s the second year running that the Ram won, last time with a diesel under the hood, this time with the 5.8-litre HEMI V8.

The Canadian Truck King Challenge is run each year and is presided over by seven expert judges from across Canada. Challenges involve towing, hauling, driving and general assessments to simulate what an everyday owner would put a truck through on a daily basis. Gas mileage is also a criteria, which makes the result even more surprising!

Ram trucks are some of the best around so this win isn’t exactly from left field. They are well put together, have some very capable engines, top quality cabins and deliver the capability and reliability we demand. No wonder they do so well.

The only caveat to this win was that Ford didn’t participate in this year’s Canadian Truck King Challenge so the F-150 didn’t go head-to-head with the Ram 1500. That is a shame but should not detract from Ram’s win.

2017 Ram 1500
The exterior may look the same as always, but under the sheetmetal the 2017 Ram 1500 is still keeping up with the times. The design is bulky, yet friendly given its size. A big front end with high hood, big grille and lots of chrome is Ram’s signature and makes it stand out from the crowd of competing trucks.

Inside, the 1500 has one of the best cabins in its class with top quality materials, plenty of space, practical storage options and lots of standard and optional features. Even though competitors are improving their cabins all the time, there is something about the Ram 1500 that allows it to stand head and shoulders in front of the competition.

The truck comes with either a 3.6-litre gasoline V6 that’s good for 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, a 5.7-litre HEMI V8 that produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque or a 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 that produces 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. All use an eight speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or all wheels.

As you would expect, the 2017 Ram 1500 comes in regular cab, quad cab and crew cab configurations with two cargo bed options. There are also ten trims to choose from that range, from the basic workhorse to the luxurious and covers everything in-between.
