2017 Nissan Titan unveiled at New York

640 × 480
The New York Auto Show had a lot going on. Not only for the brands we carry but for many others too. One announcement that was almost forgotten in our excitement at the show was the 2017 Nissan Titan. Nissan had hinted at this new truck a few months back and we carried a story about it. Now we have seen it and liked what we saw.

Designed to fit below the Titan XD and compete directly with the big three, this Crew Cab truck will go on sale across Canada in late summer. This Titan offers a lighter duty truck than the XD version that will battle for market share against the awesome Ford F-150. It’s a tall order, but the Nissan does have a lot to offer.

2017 Nissan Titan
Although they belong to the same product family, the 2017 Nissan Titan shares nothing aside from an engine with the XD. It’s a new chassis, new drivetrain, new body, interior, mechanicals and everything. Nissan says nothing at all is shared between the two trucks except the looks and the 5.6-litre V8 motor. Everything else is new.

The 2017 Nissan Titan and the XD do look alike, if one is a bit smaller than the other. It’s a good looking truck with a big chrome front end, large grill, big lights, lower air vents and two tone paint. A big hood curves up to the angled windshield, over the sloping roof and down into the load bed. The simple rear end and drop down door completed the look.

Under the hood is a 5.6-litre gasoline V8 engine that produces 390 hp. It’s the same engine as in the XD and Nissan Armada so has been well tried and tested. It will be mated to a seven speed automatic transmission. A V6 version will follow later but there is no news as to whether the Cummins diesel, or any diesel will be available for this smaller truck.

The 2017 Nissan Titan will come as front or all-wheel drive, three bed lengths and five trim levels, S, SV, PRO-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve.

The Titan will hit production soon with arrival at dealerships sometime late summer. Meanwhile, the new Titan XD is already in production and should be hitting showrooms at any moment.
