2017 Nissan Pathfinder wins five star NHTSA safety rating

640 × 480
The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder has been awarded the full five stars from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's New Car Assessment Program. The Nissan SUV continues the good work in terms of safety and reliability that has been recognized once more by assessors.

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder was awarded five stars for its side-impact performance, four stars in the frontal barrier crash and four stars for rollover risk. Available safety tech includes forward emergency braking and forward collision warning, moving object detection for the Around View camera system, intelligent cruise control, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.

2017 Nissan Pathfinder
The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is a slightly softer design that rounds out a few edges and brings everything together in a more coherent whole. It still looks like an SUV but eschews the usual box on wheels shape for a mix between high rolling station wagon and traditional SUV.

The chassis remains the same unibody frame but the suspension has seen an upgrade to improve road handling and cornering. New springs, struts and dampers make driving the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder a pleasant experience. The steering has been tightened up too, so the SUV handles like something quite a bit smaller.

The 3.5-litre V6 engine has enjoyed something of a makeover for this year too. It has been completely redesigned and while the same displacement, it is essentially a new engine. Direction injection increases power to 284 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque and improvements across the board keeps gas mileage sensible considering the size of the vehicle.

The cabin is as good as you would expect from Nissan. It is very well put together, has plenty of passenger room, lots of storage and plenty of technology. The driving position is upright and comfortable, visibility is good all round and everything is within easy reach. There is enough space inside for five adults and baggage in back to travel comfortably for hours at a time.

The 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is a solid update to an already great vehicle. The Japanese automaker has made improvements in all the right places and left well alone those things that worked well. There are lots of three row SUVs on the market so competition is stiff. However, this new versions of the Nissan SUV is right up there with the best.
