The 2017 Kia Sorento should be with us anytime soon. This is the second year of the new design and should continue the great work began last year. The redesign was a triumph, converting many new buyers into Kia fans and winning lots of praise for the new looks.
The Sorento is a new breed of crossover than really can be all things to all men and women. It’s a tidy looking car with a cute front end, tiger nose, angled lights and sloped hood. The lower vent looks pretty cool too. Get a model with fog lights and the little four square cluster makes a huge difference to how the front looks!
The profile is similar to the previous model, a very angled windshield, slightly sloping roof with roof rails, rising beltline and rooftip spoiler add a premium appearance. Add decent alloy wheels and chrome accents and the Sorento really does look the part.
Under the bodywork, the 2017 Kia Sorento gets a lighter and stiffer chassis and body, redesigned suspension and some new engine tuning that improves fuel economy. With front wheel drive and good balance, the driving experience inside a Sorento is great. It’s quiet, responsive and holds the road well. With little body roll and the ability to absorb poor road surfaces, it’s a great drive wherever you take it.
There are two engines available, the standard 2.4-litre four cylinder that produces 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque and a 2.0-litre turbocharged four that produces 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six speed automatic transmission to send power to the front or all wheels.
Inside, the 2017 Kia Sorento shows improvement in materials and build quality. Space is certainly not at a premium here with plenty of head and legroom throughout. The driving position is comfortable and the controls are all within easy reach. Switches and controls all have a reassuring click to them and models with Kia UVO get an intuitive infotainment system that is very easy to use.
Safety tech abounds with the new Sorento. Models can feature forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane departure warning and rear cross traffic alert.
The 2017 Kia Sorento should be arriving in our dealerships anytime over the coming weeks. Visit Kia of Hamilton, 1885 Upper James St, Hamilton ON, L9B 1K8 to book a test drive!
