The 2017 Kia Forte is a solid update to a great compact car. With a new front end, new lighting, new trim and some new engines, there is a lot to like about this cool little Kia.
The Kia Forte seems content to stay out of the limelight and just get on with what it does. With a sleek design, low price point and great practicality, there is a lot to recommend it as a small family car or runabout. I really like it.
The rounded design works very well. The tiger nose grille is still present, flanked by a pair of angled headlights that sweep upwards at the outside. A sloped hood and very steeply raked windshield flows over a rounded roof and down to a small trunk. The overall package may be modest in size but manages to squeeze a lot into a compact wheelbase.
On the inside, the Forte punches way above its weight. This is no econobox but a fully featured compact car. Materials and design are accomplished and comfortable, finishing is excellent and the look and feel of the interior is pleasing. Driving position and passenger seats are both comfortable and supportive and the dashboard works well.
Despite the sloping roofline, rear passenger room is generous too. Two adults can sit in comfort for longer journeys easily and without getting a headache.
2017 Kia Forte engines
There are three engine options for the 2017 Kia Forte depending on what trim you go for. There is the standard 2.0-litre four that generates 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque, a different 2.0-litre with 164 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque and a 1.6-litre turbo four that delivers 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque.
All use a six speed manual or six or seven speed automatic to send power to the front wheels.
There are three trims available for the Forte LX, S and EX. There are another three for the Forte5 hatch. The base LX model features heated mirrors, air conditioning, power accessories, Bluetooth, CD audio with satellite radio and USB connectivity.
The S adds sports suspension, alloy wheels, LED lighting rear spoiler, chrome exhaust trim, adjustable driving modes, leather steering wheel, 7 inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The EX adds the more powerful 2.0-litre engine and drops most of the sportier features of the S trim. It also has mirror indicators, keyless entry and ignition, ambient interior lighting, leather, heated front seats and climate control.
Kia packs a lot into this compact sedan and has priced it very competitively indeed. Visit Georgetown Kia, 199 and 314 Guelph Street, Georgetown, Ontario to see the 2017 Kia Forte for yourself.
