2017 Jeep Compass
2017 Jeep Compass

The 2017 Jeep Compass is finally with us and we now have an attractive smaller sibling to the pretty awesome Grand Cherokee. We have known the new Jeep was coming for a while now and I have covered it before on here. Yet now it is here for real I thought it worth covering once more.
I like the look of the 2017 Jeep Compass. It is rounder, more modern and much more approachable than the previous/current model. It is less boxy, more friendly and much more up to date. All good things when it comes to midsize crossover SUVs. It’s a picky market where tastes change quickly.
2017 Jeep Compass design
The design of the 2017 Jeep Compass is bang up to date. The front end is definitely a Jeep while the rear has more than a little Renault or Mitsubishi about it. The rest is definitely all Jeep again. It features the signature Jeep grille and headlights and a black lower sill with a pair of running lights and fog lights.
A steeply raked windshield and rising beltline offer real interest while the black roof contrasts nicely with your body colour of choice, if not black. A set of nice looking alloy wheels completes the look.
Inside, the 2017 Jeep Compass isn’t quite as rugged as the outgoing model. There is definitely more of a nod to comfort in the cabin here. The driving position is still upright and has everything canted towards the driver but there is seemingly more comfort for passengers and a little more room too.
2017 Jeep Compass mechanicals
The 2017 Jeep Compass will use the proven Jeep 2.4-litre four cylinder Tigershark engine. It develops 180 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque and will send power to the rear or all wheels via a six speed manual or one of a pair of automatic transmission. One of these is the nine speed transmission we see in other Jeeps. It’s a smooth drivetrain that optimizes smoothness and efficiency.
There will also be the option for Jeep Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4×4 if you really want to go off the beaten track. The Trailhawk edition will be the model for you if you want to take the Compass off road as it will feature Selec-Terrain includes Selec-Speed Control with Hill-descent Control, off road tires and the usual tough features you would expect.
Unusually, Jeep is running this new model alongside the existing one. So if you order the 2017 Jeep Compass, you may be allocated the old model or the new model.
