2017 Ford Super Duty bringing Adaptive Steering

2017 Ford Super Duty bringing Adaptive Steering

Ford Super Duty trucks have been best sellers for longer than I can remember. There are more of them on the road than any other truck and they have been the best-selling truck in the U.S. for the past 18 or so years. That means any revision has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, it looks like the 2017 Ford Super Duty is going to do just that.

The 2017 Ford Super Duty includes the F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550. A new chassis, new aluminium sheetmetal, new engine tuning and new hauling and towing capacities are all on the cards. While there isn’t a massive difference in the looks, underneath is where all the good stuff happens.

The trucks will be featuring Adaptive Steering for the first time. The system adjusts the steering ratio by up to 30% depending on speed of travel and load. So if you’re negotiating a trailer in a tight space, the steering can adjust to make the truck much more manoeuvrable. Conversely, if you’re running at highway speeds, the steering slows down a little to increase comfort and control.

This not only makes the 2017 Ford Super Duty easier to manage but also improves control, lessens fatigue and makes living and working with the truck easier.

Here’s an explainer video of the new technology.

2017 Ford Super Duty
The 2017 Ford Super Duty line is a range of full-on work trucks. If you need to tow or haul, these are what you use. The F-250 can haul up to 2,787 pounds and town 15,000. The F-350 with gooseneck can tow up to 20,400 pounds or haul (without gooseneck) up to 3,529. The F-450 can carry 4,749 and tow up to 30,100 pounds.

While the engines in this new model are the same as before, they have been tweaked and tuned to produce more power. The 6.2-litre gasoline V8 produces 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, the 6.7-litre diesel delivers 440 hp and 925 lb-ft of torque. Both engines get more torque this year, the diesel V8 gets 65 more torque while the gas engine gets 25 more torques. The 6.8-litre V10 will still be available too.

With other improvements such as a stronger chassis, lighter body shell, the new reversing guidance system and the cabin from the F-150, there is a lot to like about the new Super Duty line of trucks.
