The 2017 Ford Fusion is proving itself a worthy contender for top family sedan. It comes complete with great looks, comfortable ride, good road handling and decent manners. Combine all that with a comfy cabin, lots of features, plenty of options and a competitive price and this midrange Ford has a lot to offer.
The design is typical of the new Ford family design. The shark-like face with angled lights and grille mouth is now a feature across the range. While at its best on the new Mustang, it looks pretty good on the 2017 Ford Fusion too. While the name fusion means a combination of things to make something new, this car is a pure sedan by look and by nature.
The cabin is quality. A new dashboard layout and centre stack with rotary shifter (on some models) makes a big difference. Seats are comfortable and adjustable, the driving position is infinitely adjustable and there is plenty of passenger space in either row. Cargo space in back isn’t bad either. Spec the Titanium trim for some pretty impressive leather seats and a nice centre stack with touchscreen for a real premium experience.
2017 Ford Fusion mechanicals
The standard motor on a 2017 Ford Fusion is a 2.5-litre four cylinder that produces 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. There is also a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine with 181 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque and a turbo 2.0-litre four that delivers 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is a turbocharged 2.7-litre V6 that delivers 325 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. All use a six speed transmission that sends power to the front or all wheels.
All vehicles come with antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, front knee airbags and side curtain airbags. The New Sync 3 system offers Ford MyKey and 911 assistance. Optional safety tech includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, driver drowsiness detection, combined lane-departure warning and intervention system, frontal collision warning system with brake priming and inflatable rear seatbelts.
The 2017 Ford Fusion is available in five trims, S, SE, Titanium, Platinum and V6 Sport. All are well specified for their price and include alloys, automatic lighting, LED lighting, reversing camera, power accessories and smartphone integration as standard. As you would expect from Ford, the trim features list and options grow exponentially from there.
The 2017 Ford Fusion isn’t a fusion of anything. It is a solid sedan in its own right. It drives well, is comfortable as both driver and passenger and offers great value for money. The new looks and engine options are winners too!
