640 × 480
The 2017 Ford Fusion has proven its worth once more as it is awarded Top Safety Pick+ from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). We already rate this Ford, it's a pretty decent sedan and a common sight on our streets across Canada. The news that the 2017 Ford Fusion is now regarded as having 'good' safety as per the IIHS should only improve that popularity.

We covered the 2017 Ford Fusion back in June and liked what we saw. Ford have done a lot to improve both driver and passenger safety and pedestrian safety too. They have strengthened aspects of the front end, added active braking, pedestrian detection and auto parking. Standard is electronic stability control, antilock brakes, a rearview camera and eight airbags around the cabin.

Optional safety tech includes rear inflatable seatbelts, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, a blind-spot information system, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning.

The design echoes the familiar Ford family design while also standing on its own two feet. The front end is a tidy one with nice grille, angled lights and panel detailing on the hood and fenders. The profile is sleek and modern with enough originality to attract a new audience while still satisfying the existing one.

There is a 1.5-litre turbo that delivers 181 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque, a 2.7-litre V6 turbo that delivers  325 ho and 350 lb-ft of torque, a standard 2.5-litre that produces 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque and a 2.0-litre turbo four that delivers 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. All use a six speed automatic transmission to send power to the front or all wheels.

The 2017 Ford Fusion is available in five trims, S, SE, Titanium, Platinum and V6 Sport. All trims comes with good standard features including plenty of safety tech. As you would expect, the options list is pages long andincludes even more safety tech as well as some nice lifestyle options.
