2017 Ford Fusion Energi gets 610 mile range

640 × 480
Squeezing more range out of low emissions vehicles is the primary concern of automakers everywhere. While not as challenging as squeezing more miles out of a purely electric car, hybrid vehicles have to combine the extra weight of a motor and batteries with a decent return for that technology. It looks like Ford are balancing those scales.

In electric-only mode, the 2017 Fusion Energi stretches its range from 19 miles to 21. With a full tank of gas, the combined mileage of the vehicle is further extended to 610 miles, up 60 miles over the 550 miles of the previous model.

Ford says improvements in the software and regenerative braking system within the vehicle help get more out of the tank. The company also says it has other improvements coming that will deliver over 100 miles on electric-only and further extend the overall range of the car.

Given the rise of a certain electric vehicle manufacturer that is never far from the headlines, any improvements in range, comfort and quality will be welcome!

2016 Ford Fusion Energi
The 2016 Ford Fusion Energi is the plug-in hybrid version of the best-selling Fusion sedan. Available as either gasoline, gasoline hybrid or plug-in electric hybrid, this car offers lots of options depending on your lifestyle and values.

What makes the Energi great is that you get decent battery range for the school run or commute around town, then the car automatically switches to gas-electric to keep you going if you need to go further. So even though the car is burning fuel, it is doing so through an efficient hybrid powertrain.

The styling of the 2016 Ford Fusion Energi is in line with other vehicles of the Ford family. The front end has the shark-like styling that looks very good indeed. Those angled headlights are my favourite aspect. Inside, the cabin is top quality, with nice materials, comfortable seating, effective noise cancellation and good ergonomics.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre four cylinder engine with an electric motor attached. Lithium-ion batteries allow a combined power delivery of 195 hp which is sent to the front wheels via an automatic transmission. Charging takes 7 hours at 120V or 2.5 hours at 240V.

Switchable driving modes allows you to drive conservatively when gas mileage is most important and switch to normal driving when it isn’t. The onboard control system will then take care of the rest.

As a first move into fuel efficiency, the 2016 Ford Fusion Energi makes a great buy. You get all the benefits of a plug-in electric hybrid without any of the range limitations of a pure electric car. It’s the best of both worlds. Visit Northway Ford Lincoln, 388 King George Road Brantford ON N3S 3N2 for a test drive.
