2017 Ford F-150 Raptor to have 450 horsepower on tap

The Ford F-150 Raptor is one of our favourite performance
vehicles. It's one of the few models that offers more than the standard version
without compromising on something, comfort, practicality or whatever. Even though it's powerful, it can still haul
cargo day to day and for that we love it.

The upcoming 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is even more exciting.
News has been circulating that the new engine being installed in the 2017 model
is smaller, yet much more powerful than the outgoing on. That's good news

The current F-150 Raptor has a 6.2-litre V8 that delivers 411hp
and 434 lb-ft of torque. That seemed plenty enough when driving this truck, but
it's about to get better. According to Ford, the new model is going to feature
Ford's new 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine. That engine is good for 450hp.

The existing 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine is capable of 420
lb-ft of torque, so it isn't unreasonable to expect an improvement over that to
outperform the V8 so we expect more torque too.

The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor will have more power and
probably more torque. But that's not all. It will also be at least 500 pounds
lighter while still being as capable. It is also expected to benefit from
Ford's new 10 speed automatic transmission for a smoother, more frugal ride.
There's an all new four-wheel drive system coming too.

That weight shedding will come thanks to Ford and its
aluminium technology. Now a proven success in the standard F-150, it’s being
used in the Raptor too. It had an uphill struggle to overcome naysayers, but
recent polls reckon it is slowly converting those who loved the steel shell.

The new 10-speed transmission is allegedly being prepared,
as is the new four wheel drive system. We don't know much about either of them
yet, but we will be keeping an eye on developments and will report them when we
see them.

The current Ford F-150 Raptor is an amazing machine. Capable
on the road, in the city and in the desert, it really is a go anywhere, do
anything truck. Powered by that V8 engine, a slick six-speed transmission and
an advanced four-wheel drive system it is a firm favourite across Canada.

The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is more powerful, lighter, will
have a new transmission, new four wheel drive system and could get better gas
mileage. All while providing the kind of fun we demand from our performance
trucks. What's not to love?
