2016 Nissan Titan XD announced

2016 Nissan Titan XD announced

The new 2016 Nissan Titan XD was first debuted at Detroit in
January to much interest from the world's media and ourselves. The good news is
that we are going to be able to take a much closer look at it in a couple of
weeks' time as the Titan XD will also be appearing at the Canadian
International Auto Show in Toronto which runs from February 13 until 22.

We understand that the 2016 Nissan Titan XD is genuinely all
new. The design is new, the chassis is new, the engine is new and the entire
package has been completely redesigned from the ground up. After ten years, the Titan was due a makeover and from what
we saw at Detroit, it has got one. This XD version is like a Titan and then
some. It isn't a trim level, more a model up from the stock Titan.

New Engine

We knew that Nissan had been working with Cummins to develop
a new engine for their range for a while but we have only now got the details.
Driving the 2016 Nissan Titan XD will be a 5.0-litre V8 diesel that delivers
310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. The motor will be paired with a new six-speed
automatic transmission.

There will apparently be a gas V8 option as well as a V6,
but the Cummins diesel is the big news. With that torque, the Titan XD will
have a load capacity of 2,000 pounds and a tow capacity of 12,000 pounds.

New Design

The design of the 2016 Nissan Titan XD is a good one. It's a
handsome beast with curves in all the right places. You're obviously limited
with what you can do with a light truck design, but we think Nissan have done
what they can to differentiate the Titan from the competition.

The front end is slightly angled and isn't as bold as a Ford
or Ram. The headlights are massive and swept back to offer a bit of interest.
The raked windshield is different, while angled sills add a little more
interest to the profile. Flared wheel arches give a bit of width while the huge
rear lights will be visible for miles. The interior is just as modern, with
rugged, high quality materials throughout.

The 2016 Nissan Titan XD looks to be a great step forward
for the Japanese automaker. After a decade of the old design, it was overdue a
makeover and this one is a triumph. We look forward to taking a much closer
look at the Canadian International Auto Show next month.
