2016 Nissan Maxima earns Top Safety Pick+ award

We like the 2016 Nissan Maxima. It’s a great update that combines modern design with all those touches we like in our cars. It seems the U.S. IIHS likes it too having just awarded it their Top Safety Pick+ award.

The new Maxima scored ‘good’ on all tests except front crash prevention, in which is scored ‘superior’. This result earned the 2016 Maxima the coveted Top Safety Pick+ award from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The award really is coveted as more buyers than ever before now consider safety ratings when buying a new car.

Previous Maxima models performed respectably in these crash tests but only scored ‘acceptable’ in the small overlap crash test. It seems Nissan took note and improved the vehicle to ace the test. The test only saw a 12cm intrusion at the brake pedal rather than a 22cm intrusion before. That’s a significant improvement in a single model.

Considering the IIHS tests are much tougher for this year, the 2016 Nissan Maxima has done very well indeed to achieve this score!

The redesigned Maxima differentiates itself from the Altima and is a much better prospect for it. The new look is a fantastic improvement of an already good profile and has gone down very well with buyers. The sporty look and luxurious interior are ideal for the modern car owner and that has been reflected in the sales figures.

With a longer and lower chassis, sleeker styling, a very high quality interior and solid engines, there is a lot to like about this car. Under the hood is a 3.5-litre V6 engine capable of 300 hp and 261 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a CVT transmission that sends power to the front wheels.

So not only does it have plenty of power, it also uses less fuel than rivals, with an estimated average of 25 MPG.

Nissan have gone all out to make this a luxury car even if it isn’t sold as one. Inside the cabin, you are positioned in a very comfortable and supportive seat and surrounded by quality materials. The driving position is superb, with controls perfectly placed and solid to the touch. This is repeated in the passenger seats too, making the inside of the Maxima a very nice place to be.
