2016 Lincoln MKZ: A Quick Overview

2016 Lincoln MKZ: A Quick Overview

The 2016 Lincoln MKZ does a lot of things very well indeed. It helps differentiate Lincoln from Ford, shows that the automaker has come a long way in terms of quality, design and appeal and elevates the desirability of the Lincoln brand as a whole.

The MKZ is built on a Ford Fusion platform, but like the MKX, goes a long way to ensure it is a very different car. The new Lincoln line is all luxury. With features such as adaptive suspension, noise cancellation and quality interiors, you really do get what you pay for with a 2016 Lincoln MKZ.

2016 Lincoln MKZ design

The exterior of the 2016 Lincoln MKZ is definitely familiar but in a good way. Lincoln have completely modernized their designs while also ensuring the key features of the brand remain. So the big grille and headlight combo remains while the sedan shape is all about modernity.

The angled hood and flowing lines from hood to trunk are reminiscent of a Mercedes-Benz. A high waistline, fluted flanks, sill detailing and rounded rear end makes for a very tidy package.

Inside, the quality continues. The typical Lincoln cabin has plenty of passenger room, comfortable seating and plenty of technology. The flowing centre stack is a nice touch, with a touchscreen and controls within easy reach of both driver and front passenger. The interior exhibits the kinds of quality you expect from Lincoln and doesn't disappoint in any way.

Engine and transmission

The 2016 Lincoln MKZ comes with a choice of three engines. There is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder that produces 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, a 3.7-litre V6 that produces 300 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque and a hybrid 2.0-litre that combines to produce 188 hp.

The gasoline engines use a six speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front or all wheels. The hybrid uses a neat CVT transmission.

As you would expect from Lincoln, each engine works well and delivers the power when you need it. Power delivery is smooth, gear changes are on point and the driving experience is a positive one.

2016 Lincoln MKZ trims

The 2016 Lincoln MKZ comes in two trims, Premier and Black label. The MKZ Premier offers 18 inch alloy wheels, cruise control, automatic lighting, power everything, folding side mirrors, adaptive suspension, keyless entry and ignition, climate control, leatherette upholstery, heated and powered front seats, 8 inch touchscreen, configurable driver display, reversing camera, rear parking sensors and an 11 speaker audio system.

The Black Label adds navigation, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, power trunk lid, heated steering wheel, leather interior, ambient lighting and HD radio. It also offers a concierge that will help you with any of your Lincoln-related issues.

You get a lot for your money with a 2016 Lincoln MKZ. It's a good looking car with good engines, a smooth ride, lots of luxury and plenty of refinement. If you're looking for a home-grown luxury sedan, this is where you start.
