2016 Lincoln MKC: A Quick Review

2016 Lincoln MKC: A Quick Review

The 2016 Lincoln MKC continues the elevation of design, quality and appeal of the Lincoln brand. Intended to bring younger, more affluent buyers into the fold, the MKC does a lot of things right. As compact crossovers go, it's a winner.

The 2016 Lincoln MKC inhabits a growing niche where buyers look for practicality, passenger space and carrying capacity within a manageable size. Seeing as many of the target market lives in cities, that's no surprise. Fortunately, this new design gets everything right.

2016 Lincoln MKC design

What everyone notices when seeing the new MKC first is the more subtle grille design. It makes the car much easier to look at and much more acceptable to a wider audience. While we liked previous incarnations, many did not. This redesign is attracting new buyers as a result.

The rest of the design is equally subtle. It's an SUV without being an SUV. It looks smaller, has a nice profile and those body panels all offer their own interest and appeal.

Inside, the 2016 Lincoln MKC is as luxurious as you imagine.A large touchscreen, button shifter and panel of controls are very nicely done. The instruments are clear and precise while the rest of the dashboard is nicely understated. Quality materials, great finishing and little touches are everywhere and all combine to elevate this cabin from the norm.

Engine and transmission

The 2016 Lincoln MKC has two turbocharged engine options, a 2.0-litre four cylinder that produces 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque and a 2.3-litre engine that produces 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six speed automatic transmission.

Both engines are smooth and very capable. Engine noise is minimal while power delivery is consistent throughout the rev range. The transmission is slick and well-tuned to either engine. The combination offers a very positive driving experience.

2016 Lincoln MKC trims

The 2016 Lincoln MKC has four trim levels, Premiere, Select, Reserve and Black Label. The Premier offers the 2.0-litre engine, 18 inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, LED running and taillights, rear parking sensors, heated mirrors and front seats, climate control, keyless entry and ignition, privacy glass, power front seats, 8 inch touchscreen, Sync 3, reversing camera, voice control and a nine-speaker CD audio system.

Higher trim levels offer literally hundreds of features and options as you would expect of a luxury crossover like the MKC. Features can include leather interior, power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, navigation, blind spot monitoring, premium audio, exclusive interior themes and access to the Lincoln Black Label Program.

The 2016 Lincoln MKC is everything you expect and more. The new design philosophy is a triumph, the levels of luxury are impressive and the driving and ownership experience are first rate. There is nothing not to recommend about this car.
