2016 Kia Sorento: A Quick Review
2016 Kia Sorento: A Quick Review
Posted on September 10, 2015
The 2016 Kia Sorento has been completely redesigned for this model year. It has been reimagined and improved across the board. What was an excellent midsize crossover is now a superb midsize crossover. It was already one of our favourite cars from the Korean automaker and we think it will be yours too.
2016 Kia Sorento Design
At first glance, it appears the 2016 Kia Sorento has changed very little, yet is all new. It is slightly larger and the front end sits more upright. It is a more mature design that shows Kia coming of age. With influences from European and domestic SUVs, it fits on Canadian roads perfectly.
The tiger nose is still present and correct but has been refined to look even better. The main grille is matched by a lower grille flanked by projector driving lights. The angled headlights add a slightly aggressive look that adds a bit of road presence to what is otherwise a friendly looking vehicle.
Inside, the improvements continue. Materials have improved, finishing has improved, the driving position offers much more support and visibility and passenger room is even more generous. In other words, there is more of everything. Space, comfort, quality and technology.
Engine and transmission
There are three engine options for the 2016 Kia Sorento. A 2.4-litre four cylinder that produces 185 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque that is standard on the L and LX trim. A turbocharged 2.0-litre four that produces 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque that is available on EX and SX and a 3.3-litre V6 that produces 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque available as an option on EX but comes standard on SX.
All use the same six speed automatic transmission to send power to the front. AWD is an option.
All engines are now more refined and capable than ever before. They drive smooth, deliver steady power and very capable in any situation.
2016 Kia Sorento trims
The 2016 Kia Sorento is available as a two or three row SUV and five trim levels L, LX, EX, SX and SX Limited. The Sorento L offers 17 inch alloys, LED running lights, air conditioning, cruise control, switchable driving modes and CD audio.
The LX adds auto lighting, noise-resistant windshield, roof rails, reversing camera, touchscreen with Uvo eServices. The upper trim levels add everything from leather interior, cross traffic alerting, Infinity audio, LED lighting and much, much more.
The 2016 Kia Sorento is an excellent upgrade to what was already a great car. It looks fresh, drives well and offers even more car for
the money. Overall it is a much higher quality product at much the same price.
