2016 Kia Optima teased

2016 Kia Optima teased

Kia has
this week published a couple of teaser images of the new 2016 Kia Optima that
is due to appear at the New York Auto Show in April. The sketches offer a
completely new concept of the popular sedan and we like it!

The
sketches as you can see suggest a lower, wider car with flared wheel arches, a
long sloping hood and an exciting front end with LED lighting. We'll take the
big alloy wheels and exaggeratedly low roof with a pinch of salt though. The
rear end is low, sleek and ends in a trunk spoiler a bit like the BMW 6-series
used to. Twin pipes complete the look.

The 2016
Kia Optima does look a little like the Sportspace concept we saw in Geneva, but
for the moment we're putting that down to similar styling cues rather than
being a similar or the same, car.

The Optima
is the Korean automaker's best-selling car, so whatever happens to it for 2016
has to be good. While we can't tell a great deal from these renderings, we like
the sporty cues and the modern look. The designers have even been able to
modernize the signature tiger nose while still keeping it instantly
recognizable.

Kia Optima

The current
Kia Optima is a great car. It's a decent size, well specified, has a nice
cabin, refined engine and everything you need. It is a worthy contender for the
family sedan market, competing well against the Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata.
It's well worth a look if you're in the market.

There are
two engine options in the current Optima, a 2.0-litre turbo four that delivers
274 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque and a 2.4-litre four that gives 192 hp and 181
lb-ft of torque. Both are credible motors and have proved their worth over the
time we have sold the Optima.

There are
four trim levels currently available, LX, EX, SX and SXL. The Optima LX comes
with 16 inch alloy wheels, power everything, fog lights, heated mirrors, cruise
control, air conditioning, and six speaker CD audio. The EX adds 17 inch
alloys, quieter windows, electric driver's seat, keyless entry and ignition,
climate control and leather.

The Optima
SX adds18 inch alloys, sports suspension, LED lighting, upgraded instrument
panel with LCDs, paddle shifters and the option for the turbocharged engine.

The
range-topping Optima SXL offers the turbocharged engine, 18 inch alloys, unique
trim, LED lighting, electronic parking brake, upgraded leather interior,
parking sensors, blind spot monitor, cross traffic alert, 8 inch touchscreen
and navigation.

The New
York Auto Show begins April 1st and we'll be keeping an eye on
what's occurring.
