2016 Kia Forte 5: A Quick Overview
Posted on August 30, 2015
The 2016 Kia Forte 5 is a hatchback version of the very popular Forte line. A line that includes a sedan and a three door Koup. Each extolls the virtues of a small car with a big personality and offers generous features, lots of refinement and prices that belie that quality.
2016 Kia Forte 5 design
The design of the 2016 Kia Forte 5 is identical to other Fortes at the front but deviates as your eye travels its length. The hatch at the rear demands a different profile that lends itself well to practicality. As the roofline is higher to cater for the hatch opening, it offers even more headroom in back.
The signature tiger nose is present and correct up front, while the same raked windshield, detailed body panels and sloped roof make up the rest of the car. That hatch at the back not only allows access to some very convenient cargo space, it also makes for a very attractive design.
Inside, the simple interior benefits from all those huge strides Kia has made over the years. Materials are excellent, build quality is top notch and there is enough technology on offer to make any buyer happy. Passenger space is generous, while the driving position is comfortable and relaxed.
Engine and transmission
The 2016 Kia Forte 5 comes with either a turbocharged four cylinder 1.6-litre engine that produces 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque or a 2.0-litre GDI four cylinder that produces 173 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. Both use a six speed manual transmission with automatic as an option.
Both engines are very accomplished and offer steady power throughout the rev range. It's nice to have a manual transmission to increase driver engagement but the automatic is just as good. Both transmissions send power to the front wheels.
2016 Kia Forte 5 trims
The 2016 Kia Forte 5 comes in three trims, LX, EX and SX. The LX offers the 2.0-litre GDI engine, 16 inch wheels, keyless entry, heated front seats, fog lights, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, power accessories, power heated side mirrors, and satellite radio with CD audio.
The EX adds 17 inch alloy wheels, automatic lighting, reversing camera, heated front seats, upgraded interior trim, LED driving lights, fog lights, cooled glovebox, Kia UVO infotainment and plenty of options.
The SX adds 18 inch alloys, LED lighting, auto folding side mirrors, auto lighting, leather interior, heated rear seats, cooled power driver's seat, alloy pedals, climate control, LCD instruments, keyless entry and ignition and navigation.
The 2016 Kia Forte 5 is a great performing car that also looks great. The changes in design to fit the hatch elevates the profile from the norm and the car is much better for it. With a lot of features for the price and a great driving experience, we can't help but recommend the Forte 5.
