2016 Jeep Patriot: A Quick Overview

2016 Jeep Patriot: A Quick Overview

The 2016 Jeep Patriot sits between the larger Cherokee and smaller Renegade and fills the space nicely. It is designed to compete with other small SUVs and crossovers such as the Toyota Rav4, Nissan Juke and Subaru Forester. If prizes were given to the vehicle most improved over the past couple of versions, this would be in with a shout.

2016 Jeep Patriot design

The exterior of the Patriot hasn't changed as much as other Jeeps but has evolved enough to remain relevant and fresh in an ever-changing market. It is a definitely masculine design, big and boxy in a good way. The signature Jeep front end tells you exactly what you're looking at.

The long hood, squared off body shell, high roofline, wheel arches and angular rear end are all about practicality. It's more handsome than beautiful and we are okay with that.

On the inside, the 2016 Jeep Patriot has seen material upgrades where it needed them most. A much better cabin is the result. Seats are comfortable and supportive, visibility is good all round, head and legroom is generous, as is cargo space. Fold the rear seats down and you have acres of room to put stuff.

Engines and transmission

There are two engines available for the Patriot, a 2.0-litre four cylinder that produces 158 hp and 141 lb-ft of torque and a 2.4-litre that generates 172 hp and 165 lb-ft of torque. Transmissions are either five speed manual or six speed automatic. If you elect for a Freedom Drive II equipped vehicle, you get a CVT transmission as part of the deal.

The engines are quiet and refined around town and on the highway. Take it off road and the 2016 Jeep Patriot can go almost anywhere. It's no Wrangler, but it can go places most other crossovers fear to tread and will come out the other side with a big smile on its face. Few crossovers are true "go anywhere" vehicles, this is one of them.

2016 Jeep Patriot trims

The trim range has been narrowed to two for the 2016 Jeep Patriot. There are now only Sport and Latitude trims, but each has a huge inventory of options to make it yours. The Sport offers cruise control, tinted glass, automatic lighting, roof rails, fog lights illuminated cup holders and more.

The Latitude adds air conditioning, power everything, heated mirrors, keyless entry, leather steering wheel and a power outlet. Additional options include leather interior, alloy wheels, Bluetooth, navigation, keyless entry and ignition, remote engine start and four wheel drive.
