2016 Ford F-150 Only Truck to Win Top Safety Rating From IIHS

2016 Ford F-150 Only Truck to Win Top Safety Rating From IIHS

640 × 480
The 2016 Ford F-150 is already regarded as at the top of its game. Ford’s best-selling truck is selling massively well and for good reason. It’s well made, has some great engines, is practical, designed to work and is now the safest, at least according to the U.S. IIHS after being the only truck to win their Top Safety Pick rating.

The U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated seven new trucks and found all of them lacking with the exception of the 2016 Ford F-150. That’s not a good recommendation for a vehicle class advertised as tough and ready for work!

Here is a video interview with a representative of the IIHS discussing the tests.

As the video mentions, originally, the redesigned F-150 didn’t perform that well in the small overlap tests. Revisions for the 2016 model improved safety enough to enable it to be the only truck to be awarded Top Safety Pick. That says a lot considering how many trucks are on our roads!

2016 Ford F-150

The 2016 Ford F-150 continues the great work begun a year before when the truck was completely redesigned. More buyers have become comfortable with the aluminium panelling so it now largely a non-issue. What is an issue is the performance and utility of what is a work truck. Fortunately, no F-150 owner has been left feeling let down.

The design is bold but modern, chunky but friendly. The huge front end and hood isn’t as intimidating as it is in other trucks, either inside or outside.

The 2016 Ford F-150 is available as a regular cab, Supercab and Supercrew. It also has three bed lengths and six trim levels. Within those trims are more options that you could possibly need. All this allows you to select and refine a truck that suits you perfectly.

There are four engine options for the 2016 Ford F-150. The first is a 3.5-litre V6 that produces 282 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque. Second is a turbocharged 2.7-litre V6 that produces 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. Third is a 5.0-litre V8 that produces 385 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque and finally, a turbocharged EcoBoost 3.5-litre V6 that produces 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. All use a six speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear or all wheels.

With the V6 engine, the 2016 Ford F-150 can tow up to 8,500 lbs. The V8 increases that to 11,100 lbs while the EcoBoost engine is rated up to 12,200 lbs.
