2016 Ford Edge

2016 Ford Edge

640 × 480
The 2016 Ford Edge has performed exceptionally well since its launch. It is selling and resonating well and is proving enough SUV for most needs here in Canada. It’s agile, big enough for a family but small enough to fit into a parking space or garage. It is well specced and drives very well indeed. What’s not to like?

The Edge sits neatly between the smaller Flex and larger Explorer and while an inbetweener, has a character and strengths all of its own. I like the look and feel of the 2016 Ford Edge and would happily drive one myself. In fact, I may do once my current lease is up.

2016 Ford Edge design
The new Edge is a very modern Ford. It carries the family design with simple front end and large grille. It has a fluted waistline that rises slightly as it travels to the rear and a tidy rear end with segmented lighting. There is an almost Focus-like aura to the rear with twin exhausts and the hatch rounding off what it a very good design.

It doesn’t look large and imposing yet has lots of room in the cabin. I think it’s the ideal size for the family without becoming too big or cumbersome. Inside the 2016 Ford Edge, the cabin is larger than you might think.

Materials are all top quality, finishing is good and there are some practical touches throughout. If you buy a well specced model, the new Ford Sync 3 infotainment system is a real triumph.

Mechanicals
The 2016 Ford Edge comes with several engine options. There is a 2.0-litre turbo four that produces 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, a 3.5-litre V6 that produces 280 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque or a 2.7-litre turbo V6 that produces 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. All use a six speed automatic transmission to send power to the front wheels. AWD is an option on some trims.

The Edge is equipped with antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front knee airbags, front side airbags, Ford Curve Control, side curtain airbags and a rearview camera as standard. Optional safety tech includes inflatable rear seatbelts, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning and a forward collision warning system with brake pre-pressurization. Ford Sync also comes with automatic 911 dialling and Ford MyKey.

The Edge drives like a premium sedan which is ideal. It is composed on the road, corners well and delivers power when you need it.
