2015 Kia Soul EV wins inaugural Green Car of the Year Award

2015 Kia Soul EV wins inaugural Green Car of the Year Award

In the
first award of its kind from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada,
the 2015 Kia Soul EV wins inaugural Green Car of the Year Award. The
prestigious and now coveted award was presented at the Vancouver International
Auto Show to a very happy Kia representative.

There were
four cars that made the final, the Honda Fit, Subaru Legacy, Toyota Camry
Hybrid and the Kia Soul EV. The judges regarded the Kia Soul EV as the best and
awarded it the very first Green Car of the Year Award.

Unusually,
the criteria for this award was looser than one might expect. The quote from
the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada said their criteria was. “a
vehicle which, for its size and purpose, provides the Canadian consumer with
environmentally friendly returns that compare favourably with other vehicles in
its class.”

This loose
definition meant there was even more competition than there might otherwise
have been, meaning the 2015 Kia Soul EV did very well indeed to win the award.

“Kia Canada
is thrilled that the all-new 2015 Kia Soul EV has been recognized by AJAC as
the Canadian Green Car of the Year,” said Maria Soklis, vice president and
chief operating officer, Kia Canada Inc. “This acknowledgement is testimony to
Kia’s ongoing commitment to deliver environmentally friendly automotive
solutions and diverse powertrains to consumers without compromising on design
or comfort.” (Source)

2015 Kia Soul EV

The 2015
Kia Soul EV is an electric vehicle offering around 93 miles in range. That's
one of the best in the market right now and all for a very competitive price.

The Kia Soul
is a stylish car with a very modern theme, yet it also manages to cross the
divide between cutting edge and traditional car buyers. The generous inside
space, modern and comfortable cabin and efficient engine and powertrain all
make for a very attractive package.

The engine
is an 81 kW electric motor that generates the equivalent of 109 hp and 210
lb-ft of torque. It uses a 27 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides for
around 93 miles in fully charged range. Charging takes 5 hours with 240 volt
AC. A neat quick charge option can provide up to 80% charge in only 33 minutes.

This award
is confirmation of what we here at Car Nation Canada already knew. That the 2015
Kia Soul EV is a solid performer that further bridges the gap between green
driving and practicality. Add in great styling, lots of features and a very
competitive price and you have a future market leader right here!
