2015 Hyundai Elantra versus 2015 Nissan Sentra

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra versus 2015 Nissan Sentra
head to head is one of two established sedans. A tale of two
manufacturers that have come a long way in their time, from making
boring econoboxes to produces some truly compelling designs.

So if you’re considering a new sedan, which should you go for?

Engines

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra has two engine options. A 1.8-liter four cylinder that delivers 148 hp and 131 lb-ft of torque or a 2.0-liter four that delivers 173 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. Both come with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission that sends drive to the front wheels.

The 2015 Nissan Sentra also uses a 1.8-liter engine that is capable of 130 hp and 128 lb-ft of torque. It uses a CVT transmission on all but the base model, which uses a six speed manual.

The Nissan is a little down on power here and we’re not fans of continuously variable transmissions in urban settings. This is an easy win for the Elantra even without having that 2-liter option.

Styling

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra is sleek, simple and very effective. The fluidic design concept is readily apparent and works well both when driving and when static. The raked windshield and apparent low roof work in concert with the body design to make a car that looks as though it’s in motion even when it’s not.

The Sentra is another nice design but there’s something that just doesn’t sit right. We don’t know if it’s a little too long, a little disproportionate or what, but we can’t make ourselves like it. There’s nothing at all wrong with it. It looks aerodynamic, the front is inoffensive and the rear is actually quite attractive. But sat next to an Elantra, your eyes skim over the Sentra without even registering and that’s a problem.
Interior

The 2015 Hyundai Elantra receives a new dashboard design, offers plenty of technology, lots of interior space, supportive seats that offer genuine comfort and is quiet for the class. It’s a modern design with everything laid out logically too. We like the new layout and think it’s a real improvement on the old.

The 2015 Nissan Sentra’s cabin is simple but effective. There is nothing that really stands out as excellent. It’s ordinary, well made, of a good quality and has everything you need. But like the outside, it’s almost as though there’s something missing. We don’t know what, maybe you could tell us if you can identify what it is.

Performance
The intent of both the 2015 Hyundai Elantra and 2015 Nissan Sentra is quite different. The Elantra is designed to be an everyday family hauler or commuter and offer good levels of technology and comfort. The Sentra is designed as a commuter and to maximize gas mileage.
