The unsung hero of the Jeep lineup, this affordable SUV is a popular sight in Ontario thanks to rugged reliability and real off-road ability.
The 2013 Jeep Patriot 4X4 is the ‘Jeepest’ of the SUVs outside of the Wrangler. The signature Jeep grille and rounded lights give it an almost adorable puppy look. A simple but effective exterior design means you know what you own and know what you’re getting. No fuss, no hassle, just a simple but effective SUV.
The interior is Spartan but is all the better for it. Designed as a rugged off roader, the interior has to be strong, survive anything and be easy to clean. It is all of those things. It may not be as luxurious as some modern SUVs or crossovers but then modern SUVs and crossovers cannot go where the 2013 Jeep Patriot 4X4 can.
Engine and drivetrain
This version comes with the 2.4-litre engine with four wheel drive. It’s a four cylinder engine capable of 172 hp and 141 lb-ft of torque. A CVT transmission drives all four wheels. The larger engine and 4X4 ability means it has no trouble coping with Canadian winters. Pair it with a set of good winter tires and you can go anywhere.
The combination of strong engine and automatic transmission means driving the 2013 Jeep Patriot 4X4 is a breeze. It feels light despite its size and is easy to control and manoeuvre. Parking is easier than you might think too thanks to good visibility all round.
Base model Patriot didn’t have power accessories but this model does. It has power windows, power sunroof, keyless entry, cruise control, remote start, satellite radio, power mirrors, remote licking and Bluetooth so is well equipped.
If you’re looking for a cheap SUV that delivers reliability, space and go-anywhere freedom, the 2013 Jeep Patriot 4X4 could be it. With a strong engine, a decent selection of options and 4x4 ability, there aren’t many places this SUV cannot go.
